Who We Are
CS for EVERY child.
vCoder is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to improve and expand computer science education by utilizing the unique qualities of immersive technologies and spatial computing.
vCoder is first virtual reality computer science app that teaches coding while in VR. Created to immerse, engage, and inspire new programmers.
vCoder has a special focus towards empowering young women, underrepresented groups, under-served populations and promoting diversity in tech.
vCoder provides a dynamic, interactive, immersive, and focused way to learn computer science. It’s a new platform option for learning how to code – a coding bootcamp in VR.
On an epic quest, users learn computer science fundamentals while coding in real-time with a positive goal to solve problems and transform the world around them.
How Can vCoder make a positive impact on the world?
vCoder teaches the fundamentals of coding in VR and supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goals such as:
- Quality Education
- Gender Equality
- Decent Work and Economic Growth
- Reduced Inequalities
We believe education and technology can change the world and coding is vitally important to all 17 sustainable development goals.
The Problem & Challenge
Why Teach Code In VR?
Learning computer science matters. We live in a world surrounded by technology and the solutions of tomorrow will involve technology in some way, making computer science important to every industry.
We believe vCoder and virtual reality is part of the solution.
1. VR Brief states that 93% of teachers say their students would be excited to use virtual reality. We believe that with virtual reality we can attract more students to computer science.
2. Learning in VR is proving to have benefits over learning on 2D platforms. We believe that with virtual reality we can achieve better learning outcomes. Current research is showing that learning in VR contributes to faster understanding, greater retention of concepts, improved recall, a better focused learning environment and overall superior learning outcomes. (See vCoder Pitch Deck for detailed research references).
3. VR enables the presentation of abstract computer science fundamentals in an immersive, visual way like never before possible. We believe that with virtual reality we can improve the challenging aspects of programming.
vCoder is the first virtual reality game that teaches computer science within VR.
Code The Future
We’re on a mission to inspire the next generation of programmers, with a special focus towards empowering young women and promoting diversity in tech. Our goal is to expand and improve computer science education using the unique, engaging features of VR and make learning to code within everyone’s reach. Together we can contribute to solving our computer science crisis.
